Bad Breath Quick Tips: Help Your Teens Battle Bad Breath

Teenagers have enough to worry about without adding bad breath to the list. Unfortunately, bad breath is a very common dental problem that affects millions of people every day. Since teenagers are at a stage in their lives where they rely heavily on how they are perceived by others, bad breath can be an overwhelming obstacle for a teenager.

    What Causes Bad Breath?

Bad breath can be caused by many factors including poor oral hygiene, particular foods, underlying dental or medical conditions, dry mouth and certain lifestyle changes and choices.

Poor oral hygiene is the primary cause of bad breath. Bacteria from food particles that remain on or in between the teeth can become rotten and emit a foul smell. Flossing daily and brushing twice a day can prevent this from happening.

Strong and spicy foods can also cause bad breath. This is because the odor from these foods is expelled from our lungs after the foods are absorbed into the bloodstream.

According to dental studies, about 85% of people with persistent bad breath (also known as halitosis) have a dental condition that is to blame. These conditions could be one or more of the following:

  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Gum disease
  • Cavities
  • Oral cancer
  • Dry mouth (xerostomia)
  • Bacteria on the tongue

It is important to rule out any medical or dental problems for chronic bad breath. If bad breath is the cause of a dental condition, mouthwash will only mask the odor and not cure it.

Lifestyle changes and choices are also contributing factors for bad breath, especially with teens. Tobacco use, eating disorders and braces are some examples of these changes and choices.

    The Battle Against Bad Breath

Once dental or medical problems have been ruled out, the following steps can help teenagers get rid of bad breath for good:

  • Don’t use tobacco products
  • Eat a healthy and nutritious diet
  • Visit the dentist for regular check ups
  • Floss at least once a day
  • Brush your teeth and tongue twice a day

Teenagers who wear braces should take extra care in practicing good oral hygiene because food particles can become easily trapped in the braces.

    Bad Breath and Oral Hygiene

It is essential for teenagers to learn the benefits of good oral hygiene early in life. Good oral hygiene is often the key to preventing and eliminating bad breath, along with many other dental problems.

  • Is Bad Breath Curable or Only Preventable?

A common question people ask is whether bad breath is curable and/or preventable. Some people believe that bad breath is only preventable by changing their oral hygiene habits. Others believe that bad breath can be cured from returning. Both groups are right, and both groups are wrong…

Is it a matter of language?

The words "cure" and "prevent" are commonly interchanged when describing bad breath remedies; however, the premise remains the same. Bad breath is both curable and preventable. People’s interpretations of language vary, and some people consider the words similar; others consider them drastically different. Regardless of your perception of either word, this is not a lesson about language and semantics. Allow me to explain…

    Curing and preventing bad breath...

Treating bad breath requires eliminating your current problem and preventing it from returning. As you learned in the "Myths about bad breath" article, there is not a one-time cure for bad breath; it is a matter of changing your oral hygiene habits and using the correct oral hygiene products.

Bad breath is curable, because once you adopt an effective bad breath prevention regimen, your bad breath problem will disappear. Bad breath is also preventable, because your bad breath problem will not return if you continue applying your regimen.

Who is susceptible to bad breath?

Some bad breath sufferers assume that they are more susceptible to bad breath than other people. They feel so helpless, that they convince themselves that their problem is incurable.

Honestly, most people are equally susceptible to bad breath. Everyone has bacteria in their mouth that produce bad breath.

While certain physical characteristics can complicate bad breath (such as the texture of your tongue), bad breath is not hereditary, incurable or unpreventable for any person. True halitosis exists when a person produces a foul odor from their oral or nasal regions.

Halitosis sufferers seem unable to eliminate the smell – even by using normal oral hygiene techniques, recommended by their dentists. The occasional "morning breath" most people experience is not really true halitosis, but it can be just as disastrous and it should be treated similarly. If you suffer from bad breath, you know how much it negatively impacts your life. It may make you feel too embarrassed to socially interact or even mention your problem to your physician or doctor.

You can dress perfectly for an important interview or upcoming occasion. Maybe you select a special outfit and/or gift - or you just plan something special for the occasion. You take a shower and follow your typical routine – including brushing your teeth, flossing, and using mouthwash.

Maybe you carry breath mints, just as a precaution, to take just before such an occasion - but what if it is a surprise? What if your boss calls you into his or her office unexpectedly?

What if… unfortunately… you are not even slightly aware of your problem? This situation can ruin any impression you are trying to cast, or special event you are trying to share!

A person can attend an interview or meeting dressed to kill, or a formal dinner dressed like a model; however, if this offensive smell permeates the air… it takes over!

Remember, you can cure and prevent bad breath!

  • How To Beat Bad Breath With 1 Cheap Item From Your Fridge!

If you’ve read “The Bad Breath Report”, you already know that hydrogen sulfide (which smells like rotten eggs!) is one of the main Volatile Sulfur Compounds, or “VSCs”, produced in 85-90% of bad breath cases.

In a study detailed at the 83rd General Session of the International Association for Dental Research, Dr. Kenichi Hojo of Tsurumi University in Yokohama, Japan, found that sugarless yogurt significantly reduced the levels of oral hydrogen sulfide in 80% of participants.

The 24 volunteers who partook in the study followed strict instructions on oral hygiene, diet and medication intake. The participants first avoided all yogurts for 2 weeks and then had samples of VSCs taken from their mouths. They then ate 90-grams (about 3 ounces) of sugarless yogurt twice-a-day for 6-weeks.

At the end of the study, more samples were taken and a significant reduction in hydrogen sulfide levels was discovered in 80% of participants.

It was postulated that active bacteria in the yogurt, specifically Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptococcus thermophilus effectively drowned-out the bacteria responsible for producing the hydrogen sulfide.

While that doesn’t effectively address the root cause of bad breath (as explained in “The Bad Breath Report”), it does show fighting bad breath doesn’t have to be unpleasant. After all, what could be more pleasant than a pot of tasty yogurt every day!?

To apply findings of this study, simply… Eat about 3-ounces of sugar-free yogurt containing live cultures of Lactobacillus bulgaricus and streptococcusthermopholis (Check the labels!) every day!

  • I've Had Bad Breath For 30 Years!

"I've Had Bad Breath For 30 Years... But After Just A Single Application, I Could TASTE The Difference!"

I have been struggling with halitosis for YEARS and was laughing as I read the report ... you were talking to me like you had first-hand knowledge of ALL the things I have been through, all the gum, mints EVERYthing I have uselessly spent money on trying to fix this problem! I downloaded the report on Tuesday August 26 and started the routine that night before I went to bed! You were right in that I already had ALL the ingredients I needed right there at home (including the tongue scraper that I thought was useless but now know it must be used in conjunction with something else in order to WORK)! I felt the difference immediately even though it was one application.

As I woke up this morning, I checked my breath immediately (that being my true test) but even before that, I could TASTE the difference! After only ONE application all I can say is "WOW"!!!

I look forward to TOTAL ELIMINATION of this problem that has PLAGUED me for THIRTY YEARS! THANK YOU! Now do you have a report for weight loss?

P.S. I never dreamt I would have SUCH a testimonial! I always read testimonials with "tongue in cheek":-)

    ----Her response the following day:----

After brushing my teeth and coming into work, I really put it to the test ... I DRANK A CUP OF COFFEE! Even after THAT, my breath was okay ... ALL DAY ... and I only brushed my teeth the ONE TIME for the morning! I don't know you Tomas, but I LOVE YOU MAN!!!! THANK YOU! (No, I'm not crazy just EXCITED at having finally licked this problem!)

  • My Bad Breath Is Cured... How Do I Tell My Doctor She Is Wrong?

Thank you for your message of encouragement. The good news is, that, as a result of buying your report and acting on its sensible and logical dicta, my 'problem' is quite cured (as I am assured by my 'in-house monitor'). Money well spent - you are doing good!

My doctor is convinced that Gastric Reflux is the cause and has prescribed the latest pills and threatened an Endoscopy. How shall I break the news to her? Probably not at all, as I am bound to need her goodwill as years advance. But many thanks.

  • Plagued with Bad Breath For 2 Years... Now I've Found A Solution!

I bought a copy of your report and was amazed at the information that you supplied. I was truly amazed at what happened with my breath.

I really think my post nasal drip caused my breath to smell. I would wake up in the morning with nothing but nasty mucus in the back of my throat and your report stated that anaerobic compounds feed of mucus. I also have very dry mouth and I think that made matters worse for me.

I have tried everything under the sun TriOral mouthwash, TheraBreath, Closys just to name a few and nothing ever worked. I really didn't know what my problem was, I visit my dentist often and he put me on perio-med and nothing happened.

I have been plagued with this for 2 years now and I think I have found the solution.

  • Are You a Victim of Dangerous Bad Breath Myths?

Bad breath is a problem that occasionally affects everyone. Despite common beliefs, it is not always caused by poor oral hygiene. If you suffer from bad breath, do not feel depressed or discouraged!

Curing and preventing bad breath is simple, but many bad breath resources over-complicate the subject. They want you to believe that you must spend a lot of money to eliminate bad breath, which is not true! If you are conscious about your breath (who is not!), please save yourself from unnecessary frustration and remember the following myths…

Myth #1: Treating Bad Breath Requires Expensive Products

While some commercial products effectively cure bad breath, they are expensive and require repetitive use. Bad breath is caused by bacteria that live on and under your tongue’s surface. You must use a solution containing ingredients that can kill those bacteria. Most commercial bad breath cures contain the same (or similar) ingredients as effective home remedies.

Myth #2: Bad Breath Cannot Be Cured – Only Masked

Temporarily masking your bad breath with mints and sprays can worsen your problem. Their ingredients create a hospitable environment for bacteria to thrive in your mouth. You must kill the nasty bacteria that omit foul odors from your mouth to eliminate bad breath. Even though you may feel helpless and discouraged that nothing will work, you can overcome bad breath.

Myth #3: Bad Breath Originates In The Stomach

Years ago, there was much hype about pills that claimed to cure bad breath in your stomach. Fortunately, the US Food and Drug Administration put an end to that! Remember, bad breath does not originate in the stomach; bad breath originates from bacteria that naturally exist within your mouth.

Myth #4: There Is A One-Time Cure For Bad Breath

To prevent bad breath, you must change your oral hygiene habits and use a combination of products that kill "bad breath bacteria". You must continually apply your regimen to keep bad breath away; otherwise, the bacteria that naturally exist in your mouth will reproduce at an alarming rate and continue producing bad breath.

Myth #5: Bad Breath Is A Result Of Poor Oral Hygiene

Many people assume that bad breath is caused by poor oral hygiene. You probably have better oral hygiene habits than most people! Curing bad breath requires that you use the right products, the right way, to destroy bacteria in your mouth. Surprisingly, some toothpastes and mouthwashes can actually worsen your bad breath!

  • No More Morning Breath!

I have been living with what my husband refers to as 'Dragon Breath' for many years now and I was brushing my teeth until they were sore and bleeding and still was unable to get rid of the bad breath and the awful taste in my mouth.

But your system is so easy, so inexpensive and sooo effective, within a few days, I was no longer waking up with horrid breath, I can actually roll over and give my husband a good morning kiss without running to the bathroom to swish with Listerine first.

And I no longer cringe when my husband tries to give me a kiss in the middle of the day, my breath may not be minty fresh, because I don't have to pop mints all day anymore, but it feels totally normal, nothing to be ashamed of, I can say aahhh without worrying about knocking someone over with my breath.

I am so thankful that you discovered such a great system and are offering it to everyone. I thought that I was destined to live with a pocket full of mints for the rest of my life, thank you for making me normal again.
